- The idea I chose to do for the Intermedia art activity was the pandemic. Our cases have shown no indication of slowing down with our cases in the U.S. going over 7 million and deaths going over 200 thousand. Even at our own school dorms, there have been 5 cases recently because many people aren’t following pandemic procedures of wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.
- Initially my idea was to create a poster with a face of a person wearing a mask with a message relating to that. My inspiration for this was basically mural art you see online or even in your city. However, the issue with this is that I don’t have enough art supplies or large enough paper and I wasn’t about to go out and buy some. My second idea was to create a shape of a head and put a mask on it with the purpose of reminding people who see it to wear their mask, but again, I had no means to create the model of a head. My final, and probably most complicated idea was to create an app that gives you a notification if you leave your house.
- I ended up choosing the most complicated idea and went with creating an app. I succeeded, but it was definitely difficult and wouldn’t ever pick this option given a week timespan. The only reason I chose to do this one was because I’m a CS major and this idea interested me the most. The issue was that I’ve never created an app before; as a result, I spent the entire week learning and creating the app. If I ever create another app next time for this type of project, I would definitely get a head start on the project and start as early as I can.
Finally, there’s a short video I did about my app, but more importantly, about wearing a mask:
5. I think I did great for my first simple app and I definitely enjoyed creating a short video demonstrating it. Since it’s a fairly straight forward concept, I believe I conveyed my ideas effectively though the app: to remember to wear your mask.
